Nature’s abundance here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, inspires the foodies and entrepreneurs of the area to creative heights with their cuisines and products. We, of course, are so happy it inspired Luna and Larry. One amazing food, and also one of Oregon’s best kept secrets, is our indigenous, culinary truffles. Home to three species, 2 white and 1 black, Oregon truffles are on par with Old World varieties from France and Italy. To celebrate all things truffle (and who wouldn’t want to) the seventh annual Oregon Truffle Festival took place right here in Eugene, Oregon on January 27th, 28th, and 29th.
At the event, many types of educational and cooking/tasting events welcomed visitors from all over the globe. Coconut Bliss was thrilled to be invited to the Sunday Marketplace event, where natural food purveyors from the region served samples to festival attendees. Team Bliss was represented by Vicki and Andrea, whose hearts were stolen by Rico and Tom, two champion truffle hunting dogs. These boys are a breed from Italy called Lagotto Romagnolo and it turns out, new fans of Coconut Bliss. They gave resounding woofs for the Naked Coconut especially. This festival was also a treat for us because we were able to sample all 14 of our flavors. We are so excited to be able to do that again. With the truffle crowd, the favorites were Mocha Maca Crunch and Cherry Amaretto. Our thanks to the festival and we look forward to introducing truffle-lovers from around the world to Coconut Bliss again next year.
