Benefit for Harvest Home, Stockton, CA

Supporting the well-being of humans, as well as animals, is a key driver for the Coconut Bliss team.  Here we are excited to showcase a donation event that accomplishes both so beautifully. Coconut Bliss lover, Dana, hosted a benefit for the Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary, based in Stockton, CA.  Harvest Home assists local humane societies and rescue groups with animals - primarily farmed animals - who, due to their breed, their health, or their personality, cannot be adopted into permanent homes.  Harvest Home’s 200+ rescued residents include turkeys, hens, roosters, rabbits, goats, potbellied pigs and ducks.

Dana wrote to us about the benefit, here’s what she had to say:

“In July, the sale and production of foie gras becomes illegal in the state of California. …  To celebrate this momentous law, and in honor of my favorite waterfowl, I hosted a benefit for Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary.  This event, Death of a Cruel Delicacy: A Farewell to Foie Gras Soiree, was held at my home on December 17th. 40 guests were in attendance!

At this special holiday event, guests were treated to:

•       Seasonal vegan appetizers and desserts;
•       Original photography of Harvest Home’s rescued ducks;
•       Holiday goodie bags, chock full of vegan goodies;
•       A Silent Auction featuring jewelry, clothing, artwork, gift certificates, sanctuary greeting cards and a sanctuary dinner for four;
•       A short video featuring Harvest Home’s rescue work; and
•       A vegetarian food drive benefitting the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton and San Joaquin.

Thanks to the generous contributions of our sponsors, like Coconut Bliss, we raised over $1600 for Harvest Home’s animal healthcare fund.  The healthcare fund is Harvest Home's lifeline for the care and treatment of the two hundred rescued animals that call Harvest Home, home.  Veterinary expenses at Harvest Home add up quickly and it's not unusual for their vet bills to climb over $2,400 in a given month.

The good people at Coconut Bliss generously donated a gallon and a half of their Vanilla Island Coconut Bliss Ice Cream for our benefit.  What does one do with a gallon and a half of ice cream?  Set up a DIY ice cream bar!  Guests were beyond stoked!  I noticed one guest, a friend of mine, was very happily sitting right next to the ice cream bar.  I think he made himself about 4 sundaes.  He hadn’t tried Coconut Bliss before and it opened up a whole new world for him!  The other guests may not have eaten four bowls, but the Coconut Bliss was a *HUGE* hit!  Everyone loves ice cream sundaes!  Especially when made with delicious, cruelty-free, creamy, coconut ice cream!”

Thanks, Dana, for sharing your event with us. It sounds like you put together a great time for all those in attendance.  We’re delighted it turned out so well.  Thanks for sharing the love.
