Recently there have been media reports of some coconut growers using exploited and abused primates to harvest coconuts. We can assure you that the coconuts for our coconut milk are not harvested by primates. Members of the Coconut Bliss team have been to our suppliers’ coconut farms and processing facilities on two separate occasions. We maintain very close relationships with our suppliers, not only to ensure the highest quality ingredients, but also to ensure that workers are treated fairly and that all practices are safe, humane and fair.
In addition to our own inspection of the coconut farms and facilities, we have obtained statements from our coconut milk suppliers attesting that harvesting is carried out by the coconut farmers themselves, or by contracted specialists. The harvesters use long-handled bamboo poles with sickle-shaped knives on the end to cut the ripe coconuts down from the tall trees. Once on the ground, the coconuts are gathered and sent to the processing facility.
It is our mission to provide divinely creamy, dairy free ice cream that is made using practices and ingredients that are ethically and environmentally sound. We work closely with our affiliates to uphold and reinforce this mission throughout all levels of our business.
